Platform-scale engineering leadership

I currently lead engineering at a SaaS company operating in aviation tech — where real-time performance, safety, and scale aren't optional. My focus is on building strong, autonomous teams and modular platforms that can evolve fast without creating chaos. I stay close to architecture, delivery, and hiring, and I obsess over observability and system clarity.

Startups, scaleups, and hard lessons

I've helped build companies from the ground up and seen them grow from three people to seven-figure revenue. I've also seen what happens when startups don't make it — the pressure, the pivots, and the trade-offs. That mix taught me how to move fast with discipline, cut waste, and build tech that supports real outcomes, not just roadmaps.

Leadership across sizes and sectors

Over the years I've worked in early-stage startups, large public organisations, and everything in between. I've built onboarding systems in financial services, improved customer experience for universities, and modernised infrastructure for a national sports body. I've led tech from the IC level through to department-wide strategy — often wearing multiple hats at once.

Hands-on across the stack

Before stepping into engineering leadership, I spent years as a developer, sysadmin, and product-minded problem solver. I've worked across PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, Vue, Node, Laravel, AWS, RabbitMQ, Redis, and plenty more. That background keeps me grounded. I can spot fragile architecture and bloated delivery processes from a mile off — and I know how to fix them.

Reinvention, not stagnation

My job titles have ranged from Webmaster to Head of Engineering. In between, I've been a developer, an IT manager, a systems director, a contractor, and a business owner. I've changed lanes when I needed to — but every shift gave me a better view of how tech, teams, and organisations really work.
